I realize I should have posted this much sooner than the 23rd of December so you’ll have to forgive me. If you know the person’s favorite poet, buy them a copy of that poet’s newest book. If you don’t know their favorite poet, buy them a copy of my book of poetry. 🙂 If you’re pressed for time, a gift card to Amazon or their local bookstore is a great gift as this allows them to purchase the book of their choosing.
Whatever you do, don’t get the poet in your life a journal or notebook. Most of us writers want (need?) to choose our own journals and choose it based on things that wouldn’t make sense to others – the way it feels in our hands, the way it makes us feel in our hearts, the way it makes us want to grab a pen and immediately begin writing. But it’s more than that, and one of my favorite poets, Megan Falley, explains it perfectly:
