On Saturday I went to the Library of Congress. I’ve been wanting to go for some time and finally made it there over the weekend. It’s kind of sad I hadn’t been there before as I love libraries and think they are an amazing resource. I read over 100 books a year and 95% of them come from my local library. If I ever win the lottery you can be sure the Courtney Birst Library will soon be built! 😉
The Library of Congress is gorgeous and huge, clearly the architect knew that books are a thing of beauty when he designed it.
As I glanced around I turned my gaze up toward the ceiling and was rewarded with this view – I love that poetry is in the center!
And then I wandered into the Thomas Jefferson Library – this contains many of the original books from his private library, the man was an incredibly prolific reader! I couldn’t find any poetry but I’m certain he read some, maybe he just borrowed poetry books from friends!
After spending a few hours in the Library, I walked through the library shop where I picked up a few postcards and bought a new journal – I was feeling inspired and was certain I’d need to put pen to paper quite soon.
