Last week was an amazing poetry week for me:

Monday, 21 March, was World Poetry Day and I spent as much of the day immersed in poetry as I could. I woke up with a phrase running through my head and I used it to write a poem titled Thorn. I edited that poem later in the evening at a poetry workshop. I wrote another poem titled The Morning Before We Fell Apart using this prompt.

Wednesday, 23 March, I was notified my poem Butterfly Sisters had been accepted for publication by Haunted Waters Press. Later that same day I was notified my poem Magic had been accepted for publication by Helen: A Literary Magazine.

Friday, 25 March, I wrote a poem title Where I Use Running as a Metaphor for our Failed Relationship – it came from this prompt – sometimes the prompts that spark the poems don’t seem logical, but that’s the wonder of poetry.

Saturday, 26 March, I wrote a poem for Up the Staircase’s 90s issue titled Cranberries & Blow Jobs. Yeah, it’s a weird poem but I’m excited about it. It’s not often I’m able to lament about blow jobs and 90s music.

Sunday, 27 March, I completed an interview with Marilyn of The Salonniere’s Apartments – look for the write-up sometime in April. Later that day I learned my poem, Trigger, had been accepted for publication by SHE Zine.

By Sunday evening I was positively giddy with excitement. So I did the only thing I could do – I poured myself a glass of wine and curled up with a book of poetry, my notebook nearby to capture inspiration as it hit.
