I previously mentioned I read 117 books in 2014 and I thought some readers might like to know which of those books I’d recommend. I keep a list of all the books I’ve read – I started doing this three years ago (it appeals to the Type A side of me) and I will likely continue to do this for some time. It’s nice to look back and see what I’ve read.
I’ve broken them down into the following categories: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. There are many versions of fiction – historical fiction (a favorite of mine), science fiction, etc. but for this post I’m keeping it simple with just three categories. Here are my recommendations:
Fiction
~ The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova
~ All Woman and Springtime by Brandon W Jones
~ Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran
~ The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin
~ Defending Jacob by William Landay
~ Blood and Beauty: The Borgias by Sara Dunant
~ Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin
~ Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant
~ Before You Know Kindness by Chris Bohjalian
Nonfiction
~ Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
~ Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
~ Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer
~ On Writing by Stephen King
~ Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott
~ The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace by Jeff Hobbs
Poetry
~ Looking for the Gulf Motel by Richard Blanco
~ Late Wife by Claudia Emerson

What books would you recommend?
So what did you think of Mr. King’s ‘On Writing’? (I haven’t read it)
You read a lot more than I did during the year! Books of note for me:
‘Romance with Cocaine’ by M. Ageyev
‘False Dawn’ and ‘The Old Maid’ by Edith Wharton (Novellas)
‘Ravelstein’ by Saul Bellow
‘The Tesseract’ by Alex Garland
all fiction, by the way
