A couple of weeks ago I was at Queens University of Charlotte for my graduation residency week – yes, that’s right, this wild ride has finally come to an end and I was awarded my MFA.

It’s hard to believe it’s been two years, in some ways it feels like I only just began the program. In some ways it feels like I’m only just beginning my writing path and to that end, I think it’s true.

The week was busy and wonderful and bittersweet. I celebrated my 40th birthday that week so it felt extra special. My awesome writer friends helped celebrate in style with a fantastic birthday dinner…and a tiara.

I’m 40 bitches!!

As the week progressed I started thinking a lot about my next steps. I’ve got to do another edit of my manuscript and then I’ll send it out to more publishers, I’m editing/providing feedback on several friend’s manuscripts, and I’m writing new poems. I’m also looking into several upcoming workshops and mentorships I’d like to be a part of. Because even if I’ve completed my MFA, I’m decidedly not done learning. Here’s to the next step in my writing career!

My Motherfucking Arts degree!
